Product Manager, Robotic Surgical Platform

Position Description:
Will be responsible for gathering and prioritizing customer requirements, supporting and developing the product vision, and working closely with engineering, sales and marketing to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager's role also includes ensuring that the product supports the company's overall strategy and goals.


Job Responsibilities

Market Analysis:

  • Develops and maintains market information system, including the evaluation of markets outside of the US.
  • Researches, analyzes, and remains informed about competitive products.
  • Develops and refines Price Strategy and Competitive Pricing/Share Analysis.
  • Participates in the formation and the continued evaluation of MAKOs 5 year Product Roadmap.



  • Product Development:
  • Identifies, defines and presents new and existing product development opportunities and strategies to management.
  • Generates customer requirements for products in alignment with MAKOs product development process.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Training Manager, Sales Management and Program Team members, assists in the development of clinical training materials and curriculum as part of the product development and release process.
  • Actively participates in the product development programs and meets on a regular basis with the Program Team members to support the overall efforts of releasing products in alignment with the program plan.
  • In collaboration with the Program Team, identifies the surgeon advisors who will execute clinical evaluation and testing of new products as part of the design validation process develops.
  • Selects, nominates and manages the Clinical Advisory Board (CAB) members and defines their works and contributions. Is primary owner of the relationships with CAB members, while ensuring that Program and R&D team have access to such members. Manages this process in line with AdvaMed and other regulatory guidelines established around good practices and in compliance with the law.
  • In conjunction with the R&D Staff, selects, and nominates Design Advisory Board Members and with counterparts in R&D, utilizes the expertise and design capabilities of the DAB to develop new products.
  • Responsible for facilitating surgeon interaction and/or visits with the product development team.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Clinical Research in defining the needs for clinical studies (PMS and 510k) as required.
  • Provides long term forecasts for MAKO products to operations group.
  • Ensures product management deliverables are performed within Company’s Quality System and Business Conduct Policy.
Product Launches and Sales Support:
  • Defines the Marketing Launch Plan to include timing for release, forecasting, internal and external clinical and sales training.
  • Captains and coordinates the launch execution in conjunction with all members of the program and product development team leadership members.
Other Duties:
  • Develops sales training materials and delivers sales training on a case by case basis, in particular around product release.
  • Visits and spends time with CAB members and MAKO customers on a regular basis with an emphasis on attending surgical cases.
  • Attends clinical meetings and trade shows.
  • Attends CAPA review meetings, monitors CAPAs and prioritizes field issues for the Program Manager.
  • Assist in the development of the department’s annual budget.
  • Participates and assists in the professional development of new and less experienced marketing team members.
  • Leads department on special projects such as annual user group meeting, national sales meeting and other similar activities as identified by the manager of the department.


  • Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred with a minimum of 10 years of product marketing experience and a minimum of 5 years in orthopedics.
  • Strong ability to influence team members through expert insight and product analysis data points.
  • Excellent communicator and public speaker.
  • Demonstrated ability establishing and maintaining effective and efficient channels of communication with peers and management team members.
  • Proficient in multiple computer based tools (MS Word, Excel, Publishing, Power Point, etc.)
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.
  • Demonstrated experience in international marketing activities including pricing, product launches and strategic planning.
