Patent Agent
Location:
Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Position Description:
The candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science; a strong technical background in the areas of robotics, haptics, and/or control systems; and some experience with software algorithms. Experience with medical robotics or surgical navigation a plus. Graduate study or other technical experience is strongly preferred. The candidate must be registered to practice before the USPTO and ideally has 1-4 years of patent prosecution experience, including drafting patent applications and responding to Office Actions.
The Patent Agent will work closely with Engineering, Business Development, and outside patent counsel while reporting to in-house IP Counsel. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining a detailed understanding of the Company’s technology and intellectual property as manifested in its various products, technical developments, and IP portfolio
- Drafting patent applications and responding to Office Actions
- Working with Engineering to improve the quality and content of invention disclosures
- Searching for and analyzing prior art for patentability, freedom to operate, and invalidity studies
- IP due diligence for licensing transactions, patent procurement, patent litigation, and technology acquisition
- Gathering and analyzing data on the intellectual property, products, and technology of market competitors and potential business partners
