Patient Community for MAKOplasty®
Estimated 15 million OA knee sufferers.*
• Only 0.6
million knee arthroplasty procedures performed in 2006. MAKOplasty ® may
benefit a broader patient population, including active baby
boomers, who suffer from early to mid-stage OA disease and
present with the following:
• Increasing knee
pain
• Reduced
mobility and activity
• Loss
of quality of life
• Unicompartmental
disease
• Desire
for less invasive implant surgery.
*Frost & Sullivan
2007

Study survey reports 92% of men and 88% of
women decline implant surgery.
A Duke University study survey
reports that of those men and women whose physicians
recommended a total hip or knee replacement, a staggering 92
and 88 percent, respectively, did not take advantage of these
surgical procedures, despite their safety, success rates and
long-term positive outcomes. Fear of pain or worsened mobility,
misperception of advances in the rehabilitation process, and
lack of awareness of the full range of benefits afforded by
such interventions is behind the high patient refusal rates,
the study’s
investigators surmised.
